Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a highly specialised, non-invasive therapeutic technique. Unlike traditional medium and deep tissue massages that target sore muscles, MLD focuses exclusively on the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is your body’s “clean-up crew”.
It is a network of delicate vessels and nodes responsible for removing excess fluid and cellular debris from your tissues. During an MLD session, a trained therapist uses light, slow, rhythmic, and pumping hand movements. These gentle motions start in healthy, non-swollen areas to “open” up the well-working lymph collectors, and then gently sweep fluid from the swollen, surgical area to a place where it can be processed naturally. It is entirely painless and designed to respect delicate post-surgical tissues, and clients often fall asleep during the treatment as it can be very relaxing.
