More on Lauren

I currently work for the Cornwall FA Girls Advanced Coaching Centre (ACC) and AFC St. Austell as a sports therapist providing a professional, competitive and high-quality service to adolescents and adults. My role involves prehabilitation, injury diagnosis upon full assessment, injury treatment, rehabilitation, injury prevention, strength and conditioning; pitchside first aid, sports massage, kinesiology and rigid taping.

During my Sport and Exercise Psychology degree, I worked with professional teams in the British Basketball League (BBL), including the Plymouth Raiders.

Although this role was based around Sport Psychology, I took particular interest in those players who were injured, or in the rehabilitation process, or were returning to play from injury.

Massage is a massive part of the body’s function in terms of recovery and maintenance. I am very passionate about my role as a sports therapist, because I enjoy what I do by helping patients with their needs, reducing their pain or enhancing their relaxation. I love using my knowledge to help people achieve their goals.

More on Anna-Leena

Originally from Scandinavia, she moved to London in 2001 as part of a family tradition and feeling drawn to England. “In 2016 to ensure my children a better quality of life we moved to Cornwall. In all my roles, my main drive has been to make a difference, helping others to make their lives easier. With holistic therapies, I can help release tensions from daily stresses, hard work or other habits that cause aches, stiffness and even affect moods.”

She enjoys clients learning more about their bodies’ tensions, often that they had not realised the existence of before. She loves feeling the ‘knots’ suddenly disappear – and experiencing it is like a sudden release that is difficult to describe.

I love spending time with my children, dancing and playing games. After my children, my babies are my plants that bring the outside indoors to keep me closer to nature. I love in particular that which is left wild and untarnished in nature. The Cornish beaches and footpaths provide that quite well, though at times they need a helping hand with my lovely litter picker and collected container(s). Recently I started a self-defense class with my daughter, which I thoroughly enjoy and that builds up our resilience physically and mentally.

Anna- Leena, Massage therapist, Truro

Anna-Leena is intrigued by people that are well, and the comparisons to those that are not. This has grown an interest in how and where we place our unhealthy habits, and how to release them. She has a passion for enabling us to feel better.

Having received massages, healing and energy work, I have felt the benefits in mind body and spirit. It’s like taking the gunk out and replacing it with love and freedom/space for movement.

With 22 years in the HM Forces (Army), my journey began in Essex, taking me across the globe during my military service. Regular exercise in the forces sparked my interest in physical well-being, ultimately shaping my career path.

My passion for sports massage stems from recognising its synergy with personal training and its ability to address both physical and mental aspects of wellness.

Debbie Slater (owner and therapist, Truro)

massage therapist Debbie

I have worked as a nurse for many years and unfortunately also have first-hand experience of being a back pain sufferer. I don’t believe that people should be slowed down by physical injury, pain or stress and that we should be able to keep active for the love of it and live life to the full.

Discovering the benefit of deep tissue massage therapy in 2007,  I realised that massage could help speed recovery and consequently, I didn’t have to rely on analgesia alone.

Also, I was privileged to have the knowledge and expertise of Dave Marriage (formerly of the Pain Clinic Truro) to act as my mentor.
