We’re delighted to announce that Anna Leena, our skilled therapist at Keheren Therapy in Truro, Cornwall, is now professionally trained in Lymphatic Drainage Massage. This gentle yet effective treatment supports the body’s natural detoxification processes and is now available to book.

What Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

The lymphatic system plays a vital role in maintaining your body’s health by removing waste, toxins, and excess fluids. Unlike the cardiovascular system, it doesn’t have a pump and relies on the movement of smooth muscles to circulate lymph fluid.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) is a light, rhythmic technique that stimulates the natural flow of lymph. It can help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support the immune system. It is particularly beneficial for individuals suffering from lymphoedema, fibromyalgia, autoimmune disorders, or post-surgical swelling.

Conditions That May Benefit From Lymphatic Massage:

  • Lymphoedema (swelling due to lymph fluid build-up)
  • M.E.
  • Lupus
  • M.S. (Multiple Sclerosis)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic fatigue & insomnia
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Skin conditions
  • Digestive issues
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Post-operative swelling
  • Mild arthritis and joint discomfort

What Are the Benefits?

  • Reduces swelling and fluid retention
  • Improves blood and lymphatic circulation
  • Boosts immune function
  • Helps manage chronic conditions like fibromyalgia and M.S.
  • Supports detoxification
  • Promotes relaxation and reduces stress

Recent research even suggests that lymphatic massage may be more effective than connective tissue massage for reducing symptoms of depression, pain, and stiffness in fibromyalgia patients.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Lymphatic massage is performed using very gentle pressure—just enough to move the skin. The goal is to stimulate lymph flow without compressing the vessels underneath. The treatment follows a structured approach involving:

  • Clearing: A technique that creates a vacuum effect to make space for lymph fluid to move.
  • Reabsorption: Gentle, sweeping motions that guide the fluid back into the circulatory system.

Anna will ensure you’re comfortable, typically lying down, and the session will include areas such as the neck, underarms, inner elbows, and affected limbs depending on your individual needs.
