Understanding the Differences: Level 3 Sports Massage Therapists, Level 4 Sports Massage Therapists, and Sports Therapists

In the realm of sports therapy and massage, understanding the different qualifications and expertise levels can be crucial in selecting the right professional for your needs. At our clinic, we offer services provided by Level 3 sports massage therapists, Level 4 sports massage therapists, and sports therapists. Let’s delve into the distinctions between these roles to help you make an informed decision about your care.

Level 3 Sports Massage Therapists

Level 3 sports massage therapists hold a foundational qualification in sports massage therapy. This training equips them with fundamental knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and massage techniques.

Scope of Practice:

Typically, Level 3 therapists are adept at providing general sports massage aimed at promoting relaxation, alleviating muscle tension, and addressing minor issues.

Level 4 Sports Massage Therapists

Sports therapists typically hold a degree or higher qualification in sports therapy or a related field, distinguishing them as highly trained professionals in the field of sports medicine.  Training encompass 3 years of study/training at university. Although the term sports is in the degree title, Sports therapists often spend most of our time working with various clients, such as the general public, and not just sports related athletes.

Their education encompasses extensive knowledge of sports science, injury assessment, rehabilitation strategies, and injury prevention techniques and can use treatments such as electrotherapy and mobilisations.

Scope of Practice:

Sports therapists are capable of diagnosing and treating a wide array of sports injuries and non sporting injuries, designing and offering  specialised and comprehensive rehabilitation programs through out the process of injury, providing guidance to optimise athletic performance and recovery. Sports therapist can also return athletes back into their specialised sport safely.

In addition to their professional qualifications, our team of therapists brings a wealth of life experiences and diverse backgrounds to their practice. Each therapist has a unique journey that enriches their approach to care, whether it’s through personal athletic endeavours, previous work in related fields, or life experiences that foster empathy and understanding. This diversity of perspectives allows us to tailor our treatments to meet your individual needs, incorporating insights and techniques gleaned from a wide range of experiences.
